Daily, we witness numerous instances of neglect and abandonment of vulnerable dogs. Moreover, the streets are filled with these furry companions, left to survive on their own.
Yet, the presence of cruel individuals who commit such acts does not overshadow the existence of compassionate people dedicated to helping these animals.
A notable example is Joey Tuccio, an experienced rescuer from Los Angeles, California, who has helped countless dogs, so many that he struggles to recall each one.
On this occasion, his kindness shone through once again when he discovered a sick mother dog and her starving pups.
Healing Through Kindness

Hearing that this dog had survived on the streets of Los Angeles for two years broke Joey’s heart. Her appearance told a story of suffering.
This Pittie was in dire condition, and Joey and his team soon discovered that she had given birth to puppies. The most tragic part was that she couldn’t nourish them due to infected nipples, leaving the puppies starving.
Despair was not an option; immediate action was necessary to save her and her pups. Joey and the rescuers from Starts With One Today rushed her to the vet.
The veterinary team quickly administered treatment, and while she started to feel better, her sadness still remained.

After her discharge from the hospital, Joey felt confident that she was on the mend.
Lena, as the dog was named, was now spending joyful moments with her puppies, snuggling with her rescuers, and thriving in her newfound life.
Joey was thrilled by this positive outcome, but this was not his first experience of such joy.
She Deserves a Joyful Ending

Joey has dedicated a decade to rescue work and has saved nearly two hundred dogs to date. Remarkably, Lena was the 200th dog to whom this compassionate individual brought joy.
Once again, he relished this wonderful feeling, especially when he learned that all of Lena’s puppies found their forever homes.
Now, his focus was on securing a loving, permanent home for their mother to complete this heartwarming story. Given that this was his milestone 200th rescue, his motivation was even greater.
“Despite everything she went through, Lena still adores people. She’s clever and lovable. The perfect home for her would be with someone who can be patient as she reciprocates affection and cuddles,” Joey expressed at the conclusion of his interview with The Dodo.
