If you’ve ever had a dog, you know how much they love to run and play. Providing them with mental stimulation is essential for their happiness.
That’s why we take them for walks or playdates at the park. It’s entertaining for them and offers a chance to interact with others. But what happens when not all dogs have that opportunity?
River was born with a rare condition known as swimmer syndrome, which caused her legs to spread out sideways.
This condition brought about significant challenges for her. Walking was nearly impossible, but River wouldn’t let that deter her from pursuing her dreams. Eventually, she met someone who would completely transform her life.
A Distinct Challenge
When Jen and Mike lost their previous dog, they were heartbroken. In honor of her memory, they decided to dedicate themselves to helping dogs with special needs.
One dog that stood out to them was River. Her swimmer syndrome made them want to give her a fresh opportunity to walk and enjoy life.
Jen shared with The Dodo: “We found out on very short notice that River needed another foster home. We immediately picked her up and began the fostering process.”
Upon bringing River into their Washington home, they discovered that she blended in seamlessly. There were no issues introducing her to their other dogs.
