Loving Dog Waits a Decade at Washington Shelter, Dreaming of a Forever Home

Date:

For all rescuers, the primary goal is to find a forever home for shelter dogs as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this isn’t always achievable. Some pups, like Ben, often get overlooked, leaving rescuers struggling to find them a new family.

Ben was transferred to Forever Home Dog Rescue in Washington in 2016. From a young puppy, he has never experienced the warmth of a loving home. Despite the efforts from his rescuers, he remained without a family for ten long years.

Ben’s Positive Attitude

Despite being overlooked time and again, Ben remains a cheerful pup who loves the company of both his rescuers and fellow dogs. Sadly, most visitors pass him by without considering him. Although sweet-natured, he experiences stress at times.

His rescuers have learned that keeping toys in his kennel is unfeasible as his anxiety drives him to destroy them. They attempted to give him blankets too, but he would tear them apart. The staff became aware of his strong bond with them, as they are the closest family he has ever known. To alleviate his kennel stress, rescuers take him for walks whenever possible. Even though it’s not enough, the time spent away brings him joy, though he becomes anxious when returning to his kennel.

There Is Still Hope

It’s disheartening to see Ben’s excitement when going outside, knowing that his rescuers can’t do this every day. He deserves a loving family and shouldn’t have to wait so long for a home. Now that he is older, his rescuers have noticed he prefers shorter walks, valuing time spent with familiar people over longer outings. It’s the company of his rescuers that matters most, but he urgently needs a better place to call home.

At 10 years old, Ben has never experienced the warmth of a home. He deserves to know what it’s like to be cherished by someone special who will care for him forever. Although some rescuers considered fostering him, their own pets make it financially challenging. For now, Ben will stay at the shelter in Washington, but his rescuers are hopeful that by raising awareness of his plight, someone might step forward to adopt him. He is a wonderful pup deserving of the best.
