When the team at The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County first laid eyes on Little Bear, an adorable blind puppy, they instantly fell in love.
This charming pup had been rescued from the streets and was in dire need of love and a forever home.
The shelter staff reached out to Lee Asher, a dog rescuer and founder of The Asher House, an animal sanctuary. They knew he would also be enchanted by Little Bear and invited him to meet the pup.
Kelly Hill, a member of The Asher House team, visited the Washington shelter to bring Little Bear back with her to Oregon for his meeting with Asher.
The Moment Little Bear Met His Dad
As soon as Asher laid eyes on Little Bear, he found himself enveloped in affection. The adorable Chow Chow resembled a Teddy bear and captured Asher’s heart instantly.
Asher embraced him tightly, and the sweet pup nestled into his arms, resting his fluffy head on Asher’s shoulder.
Little Bear clutched Asher’s arm with his tiny paw, not wanting to part ways with his new dad.
From the moment he was cradled by Asher, Little Bear sensed that he had found his home.
Asher pondered how anyone could have abandoned such a precious being. Little Bear was incredibly sweet and appeared to be a puppy despite being an adult dog.
Showering Little Bear with kisses, Asher expressed his love for him. He made a promise to be his forever dad.
“I love you! You never have to worry again,” Asher exclaimed in a video he shared on Instagram.
While holding Little Bear close, Asher felt as if he were in a dream.
Both Asher and Little Bear were enveloped in their love for one another, with Asher declaring his deep affection for the pup.
Kelly informed Asher that Little Bear had micro eyes and couldn’t see anything; he was suffering from entropion, which had caused his eyelids to turn inward.
Asher felt a wave of sorrow learning that this condition had caused Little Bear discomfort. He was on medication and required eye surgery to alleviate his pain.
The Forever Home of His Dreams
Asher gently placed Little Bear in the car, wrapping his arms around the endearing pup, hoping he would feel the depth of his affection.
“I know you can’t see me, but I can feel you. And I love you. That is love you’re feeling,” Asher assured him.
Upon arriving home, Little Bear was to have a short wait before being introduced to the rest of the pack, as Asher wanted to ensure he was clear of kennel cough.
Asher cuddled with Little Bear in his room, where the little pup felt the warmth of love in his dad’s embrace. When bedtime arrived, Asher tucked him in and gave him a goodnight kiss.
The following day, Asher took Little Bear to the groomers for a refreshing bath and grooming session.
Following his pampering session, Asher took Little Bear for a vet checkup and arranged for his eye surgery.
After the surgery, Little Bear made a swift recovery. Asher felt a tremendous sense of relief knowing his dear dog was no longer in pain and could finally enjoy life to the fullest.
Little Bear’s Siblings Welcome Him to the Pack
Little Bear was finally ready to meet his new siblings. Initially, he was a bit hesitant, but after a few moments, he started to unwind and engage with them. His new siblings sniffed him curiously, wagging their tails, happily welcoming him into their pack. Little Bear returned the affection with gentle kisses.
With the support of other blind dogs in the pack, Little Bear gained confidence. Now he enjoys hiking and exploring nature with his siblings. His siblings love him just as much as he loves them.
“He’s doing amazing, he’s just so, so wonderful. I can’t express how much I adore this dog,” Asher shared.
Little Bear couldn’t be happier. He found his ideal forever home, with a loving dad and wonderful siblings supporting him every step of the way.
Asher is immensely grateful and considers himself blessed to have Little Bear in his life. His adoration for the pup is evident.
