Animal cruelty: two words that convey immense pain, neglect, and struggle for our four-legged friends. It’s a harsh reality that dedicated animal rescuers strive to eliminate daily, and just when it seems they’ve made progress, another heartbreaking case emerges. Recently, Michigan’s public reacted in shock to one such incident at Creasey Bicentennial.
Abandoned By Owner
While carrying out routine work, park employee Jacob Kross heard desperate yelping from a porta-potty. Upon opening the door, he was confronted with a scene that left him in disbelief; a Pitbull puppy named Hank was trapped inside, covered in feces and dirt, left only with a small bowl of food. He had been struggling for more than two days after being abandoned by an owner who simply closed the door behind him.
Kross immediately reported this case of abuse to the Grand Blanc Township Police Department, prompting an urgent response from officers. Chief Renye stated in a video on the Department’s official Facebook page, “He was abandoned for more than two days at the park.”
Remarkably, despite his traumatic experience, Hank’s lively spirit remained intact. Upon rescue, he wagged his tail and wore an unmistakable smile, showing his joy at finally being found. He was quickly transported to Grand Blanc Veterinary Hospital for evaluation and soon won over everyone’s hearts.
Investigations revealed that Hank’s owner, a 25-year-old woman, had abandoned him because her landlord prohibited Pitbulls in her apartment. She was subsequently arrested, and the case remains under investigation.

Hank’s fate took an uplifting turn! After receiving a clean bill of health from his veterinarians, Jacob, the man who rescued him, and his wife, Jenna, decided to adopt him. In a heartwarming message on Facebook, the GB Veterinary Hospital shared, “He’s just the cutest and the sweetest and he’s so lucky to have a wonderful new family and so many new friends to help care for him.”
Heartwarming Outcome

In his new home, Hank could not be happier. Though still recovering, he quickly showcased his true nature—sweet, cuddly, and steadily gaining weight.
“He was super skinny, underweight when my husband found him. We are getting weight back on him. He is doing good and happy,” Jenna shared in a comment on the GBTPD video.
The owners and the Department urge pet owners to care for their furry friends and, if necessary, to seek help from animal care facilities rather than abandoning them. “Be a responsible pet owner. Remember, you chose the animal, the animal didn’t choose you. We will be the voice for animals that experience cruelty,” concluded Chief Renye.
