When California resident Hilary Klein noticed a strange heap of fur under a parked trailer, her curiosity was piqued. Approaching the vehicle, she saw the fluffy pile moving and was met with a pair of sad eyes staring back at her. To her surprise, it was a dog in dire need of help, sporting a heavily matted coat and a despondent expression, as if he had lost all hope of rescue.
A Call For Help
Klein captured a photo of the dog and shared it with Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, a dog rescue in Irvine, California. Hall expressed her gratitude in a Facebook post, stating, “He looked like he was just a pile of fur under a trailer. Thank goodness Hilary noticed him and reached out for help.”
Hall and her dedicated volunteers quickly rushed to the scene. Volunteer Mary Nakiso was the first to arrive and observed the scared canine pacing between the trailer and nearby bushes until Hall joined her. They felt devastated to learn that the pup had been thrown from a car weeks prior, and they longed to comfort him.
Rescuing The Dog
The rescuers devised a clever plan by placing a humane trap with treats near the trailer. When Jersey caught the scent of food, he cautiously approached the trap. However, just as he was about to step inside, a neighbor accidentally startled him, causing Jersey to run away in fear. The frantic chase only heightened his anxiety.
“He literally scaled [an] 8-foot wall and ended up in a construction site. I was in shock — he is a small dog, and he scaled 8 [feet],” Hall wrote. After searching the construction site, Hall couldn’t spot Jersey, so they decided to return to his favorite area and wait for him to come back.
Determined to rescue Jersey, Hall and Nakiso returned to his usual spot, spending the night in hopes of seeing him again. When Hall finally spotted him the next morning, she quickly set up another humane trap near his favorite bushes, remaining hidden to avoid scaring him away.
A New Beginning
Attracted by the delicious hot dogs, the exhausted pup entered the crate, and his rescuers rejoiced that Jersey was finally safe. Hall transported him to Camino Pet Hospital, where he received a thorough medical examination followed by a much-needed grooming to remove his matted fur and give him a refreshing bath.
The pup soon realized he was in good hands and began to relax. After being medically cleared, he was ready to find his forever home, and Second Leash On Life stepped in to help him on his journey to happiness.
“[L]ook who has been adopted, and his new mama is a professional soccer player. He is beyond LOVED, he is beyond SPOILED,” Hall shared in a Facebook update here.
Jersey quickly adjusted to his new home, filled with toys and abundant love from his forever mom. Thanks to the compassion of many, Jersey turned his life around, leaving behind his sad past and finally embracing the love he had been seeking.
