Heroic Rescuer Sees Scared Pup in Canal and Dives In to Save Him

Date:

Living on the frigid, unforgiving streets is a challenge for any dog, especially for a small puppy caught in a dire predicament.

When Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy—a rescue organization located in Irvine, California—learned about a tiny puppy trapped in a canal with no escape, she immediately knew assistance was required.

Given the seriousness of the rescue at hand, she decided to enlist some help.

The Rescue Operation

After reaching out to her friend Nelson and updating him on the situation, the two rescue workers headed out, determined to save the puppy from the predicament he found himself in.

Upon arrival, Hall and Nelson were uncertain about how to execute the rescue. With no knowledge of how long the puppy had been without food or water, Nelson recognized that time was of the essence.

“Nelson showed immense courage by descending into the canal. He wasn’t sure how he would manage to get back up, but he didn’t give up,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.

Unfortunately, when the puppy first spotted Nelson, he was terrified and attempted to flee.

Nevertheless, Nelson persevered. After a while, he successfully captured the puppy using a net and managed to find a way to escape from the canal, bringing both himself and the puppy back to safety.

As soon as Hall wrapped her arms around him, she reassured the pup, promising him that he would never face danger again, before taking him to her friend Kristina’s place for the night.

Path to Healing

Sadly, the pup, now named Sammy, was not in the best health.

Besides being quite nervous, he also had a foxtail lodged between two of his toes, causing significant pain and ultimately leading to infection.

Fortunately, a surgery was arranged for him the very next day.

Thanks to generous donations and an exceptional veterinary team, Sammy’s surgery went successfully.

“He’s recovering and doing well. A tooth has been extracted, and he will be on pain medication and antibiotics,” she wrote.

A New Beginning

As Sammy healed, one of the vet techs decided he would recover more comfortably in a foster home rather than at the clinic.

She took him in.

And the rest is a happy tale!

Hall recounted how the technician instantly bonded with him, eager to welcome him into her loving family. Who could resist that?

Sammy is now living his dream life, surrounded by loving humans and an amazing furry sibling who turns every day into a grand adventure.
