Underweight Great Dane Weighs Just 75 Pounds After Being Neglected in ‘Revenge Case’

Date:

Some cases of animal cruelty are shocking, and Lloyd’s story exemplifies this truth. At just ten years old, his life became a nightmare as he was caught in a custody battle, resulting in severe neglect. He weighed only 75 pounds, which is half of his ideal weight, a grim testimony to the lack of care he received.

He Didn’t Deserve This

Shocking as it may seem, Lloyd was an adult dog weighing only 75 pounds—almost 70 pounds lighter than he should have been. After being surrendered due to extreme neglect and starvation, Lloyd’s struggles were difficult to witness. Fortunately, Chandra Honican, a dedicated equine sanctuary owner from Kentucky, was inspired to act when she saw Lloyd’s plight.

With the help of her friends, Chandra successfully adopted Lloyd from the shelter and took him to Kentucky, where he began a transformative journey towards recovery.

“Lloyd is officially now a Kentucky dog! We all made it back home safely. He is doing so well, his spirit remains so amazing to watch,” Chandra shared in a Facebook post.

Despite the warm welcome, Lloyd had a long recovery ahead. Due to his severe neglect, his stomach was too weak for regular dog food, requiring a special meal plan.

“It’s hard to even put into words what this dog has been through. It’s even harder to understand how unbelievably skinny he is; pictures just don’t convey the gravity of his condition,” Chandra remarked.

He could only consume wet food and also suffered from bloat, a serious condition that necessitated surgery. Chandra and his new family were committed to seeing him through this challenging period.

After weeks of regular vet check-ups and bloat surgery, Lloyd finally felt the comfort of his new home, and it showed! He quickly revealed his true nature as a giant cuddle bug.

“He is such a joy to have around. He thrives on affection, and if we could sit with him for hours rubbing him, he’d be overjoyed,” Chandra remarked.

Lloyd was fed five small meals a day due to his condition, and gradually he began to gain weight, though much work remained. Importantly, he showed no signs of being shut down or depressed.

Lloyd has fully embraced his new home with Chandra and her family, even forming a close bond with her fiancé, who quickly became his favorite person. “He always wants to be where my fiancé is! If only he didn’t have to work,” Chandra humorously concluded.

As he progresses toward full recovery, Lloyd enjoys his time making friends with other farm animals and surprising his family with his incredible resilience. The best part is that Lloyd will never again face neglect. He now thrives in a loving environment surrounded by a caring family and new friends, finally where he belongs – in a warm and loving home!

Good luck, Lloyd! We wish you countless joyful memories in the years ahead!
