Virginia Rescuers Heartbroken to Discover Abandoned Puppy at Shelter’s Door Alongside a Note

Date:

Getting a dog is a significant decision, as they quickly become a vital part of our family, promising companionship in both good and bad times. It’s disheartening that many dog owners abandon their senior pets when they require extra love and care. Senior dogs feel confused and hurt after being rejected by their lifelong companions.

Princess, a senior Poodle, poignantly experienced this abandonment. She was left in a parking lot with her belongings stuffed into shopping bags outside the Animal Western League of Alexandria in Virginia. On discovering Princess, the shelter staff were heartbroken to read her owners’ note requesting her euthanization and donation of her belongings.

Left And Betrayed

Confused and heartbroken upon arriving at the shelter, Princess missed her owners and her home, hoping they would return for her. The shelter staff tended to her needs, taking her to the vet, where she was diagnosed with advanced kidney disease at an estimated 16 years old. Due to insufficient resources for her medical care, she was transferred to Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue.

Receiving The Love And Care She Needed

The dedicated rescue staff made it their mission to ensure Princess felt loved and cared for. As she gradually opened up to their affection, they provided the hospice care she required due to her age and kidney disease, all while ensuring she experienced no pain. They recognized Princess needed time to heal from her heartbreak and continuously showered her with love and cuddles, delighted to witness her improvement.

“We see her thrive more and more each day…,” remarked Georgia Dodson, director and cofounder of Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue.

Princess thrived in the loving care of her hospice foster, who cherished her as she deserved, showering her with the affection she needed. Observing Princess’s joyful transformation day by day led the rescue staff to believe she could find a loving family, not just a hospice. Knowing that Princess is loved and cared for fills my heart with joy, and I’m confident she will find a forever home where she will be treasured for the rest of her life.
