One-Eared Puppy the Size of a Hamster Triumphs Over Every Challenge Life Presents

Date:

Van Gogh has always been a remarkable pup.

This little ‘rolling crocodile’ has encountered numerous challenges since birth, yet he has never lost hope.

Born unique, Van Gogh has transformed from a one-eared, uncoordinated, special-needs runt of the litter to a thriving big boi!

Here’s his inspiring story!

A True Fighter

Tee Sorge, from Tobies Small Dog Rescue in Los Angeles, has rescued numerous pups, but Van Gogh is one of her most cherished rescues! From the moment he was born, he faced numerous health challenges.

Van Gogh was born missing one ear, blind in one eye, and lacked the coordination to crawl and walk like his siblings.

“Van Gogh was born without an ear, blind in his left eye, and has facial paralysis on his left side. Considering all the obstacles he faces, he’s thriving,” the team shared in another Facebook post.

One of the incredible fosters, Donna McKenna, felt an immediate bond with Van Gogh and eagerly welcomed him into her home. Although she had previously cared for larger breeds, this tiny, hamster-sized pup took her heart by storm.

Van Gogh required round-the-clock care, as he struggled to nurse from his mother like the other pups.

“He was born without an ear and has balance and coordination issues, making it really difficult for him to latch onto his mama. Donna is doing everything she can…” TSDR mentioned on their Facebook.

She bottle-fed him multiple times a day and ensured his weight stayed within healthy limits. It was a challenging journey full of ups and downs; he gained weight only to lose some, as he lacked the strength to stay upright.

Then one day, the breakthrough happened! Van Gogh learned to stand on his front feet and scoot backward. Shortly after, he figured out how to use his hind legs, and the rest is simply wonderful history!

Before long, it became impossible to tell that this one-eared sweetheart was a special-needs puppy. He was out there dancing with his foster siblings, reveling in his newfound joy for life.

Thriving In A Forever Home

For Donna, the decision to keep Van Gogh was clear! Once she realized he had overcome the worst and was thriving, she knew he was a forever foster fail!

“Our little angel has grown into a playful, funny big guy!! We are immensely grateful to all of his followers and friends, especially his amazing mommy Donna for giving him such a wonderful home,” Tee expressed on Facebook.

Van Gogh integrated into his new California family as if he belonged there all along. With his mom and siblings, he now happily welcomes new foster pups into the home, ensuring they receive the same loving care he once did.

He has blossomed into a quirky, playful guy who adores cuddling. His playful nature fills the house with love.

This loving spirit came in especially handy when his mom surprised him with a new special-needs sibling, Lilly, whom he embraced with open arms.

Now, Van Gogh and Lilly are the best of friends, joyfully embarking on new adventures daily. The challenging days are firmly behind him!
