Upon learning about two German Shepherds trapped in an empty house, Sarah Ames was filled with sorrow. She hurried to their rescue.
As Ames reached the front door, she opened it and was taken aback by the state of the house. There were needles and heaps of trash littering the floor.
Unfortunately, the two dogs had been left alone there for three weeks after their owners abandoned them.
Ames spotted one of the dogs peeking around the door. The frightened pup hesitated to step out, having been betrayed by her humans, making it hard for her to trust Ames.
Transforming the Pup’s Life
The rescuer offered the scared pup some treats, which encouraged her to leave her hiding spot. With a melancholy look, the dog approached Ames and started eating the food.
Ames gently pet the lovable dog, who she later named Hattie. The pup gazed at her with grateful eyes, licking her hero’s face in appreciation.
Ames vowed to Hattie that her life would be transformed.
Ames reached out to Metro Nashville Animal Care And Control, who promptly arrived to take Hattie into their custody until a suitable new home could be found for her.
The second German Shepherd was not at the location.
Joy filled Ames when Middle Tennessee German Shepherd Rescue, based in Nashville, stepped in to help Hattie change her future. They were able to secure an excellent foster home for her.
Hattie was thrilled to settle into her new foster environment, where she received tremendous care and affection.
Rescuing the Other German Shepherd
Eventually, Ames discovered the other German Shepherd that had been abandoned alongside Hattie. A kind couple had discovered her and taken her into their home, feeding her for several days.
Ames met the loving couple and expressed her gratitude for rescuing the pup.
However, her heart sank as she looked at the dog. She was underweight and severely neglected. Her condition was significantly worse than Hattie’s.
Despite the hardships she faced, the sweet dog showered Ames with affection, giving her numerous playful kisses. Ames decided to name her Phoenix.
Ames’ friend embraced Phoenix and transported her to Metro Animal Control.
Hearing about Phoenix’s needs, the Middle Tennessee German Shepherd Rescue took her in and found her a nurturing foster home.
Phoenix, now renamed Annie, began to flourish. Her foster family showered her with love and care.
A Fresh Start
Annie’s friend, Hattie, found a loving forever home where her family instantly adored her upon meeting. Hattie’s dreams had finally materialized, evident in the sparkle of her eyes.
Ames, alongside Hattie’s new family and Annie’s foster family, organized a wonderful holiday surprise for the German Shepherds. They celebrated with a festive Christmas gathering.
Hattie and Annie were overjoyed to reunite. The two pups playfully sniffed each other, tails wagging with joy.
Excited by their Christmas gifts, they delighted in their squeaky toys. These were the very first holiday presents they had ever received.
