Honey’s story is truly heartbreaking. Throughout her life, she lost her home—not once, but twice. All she yearned for was a cozy place to call her own, yet fate had other plans.
This sweet Husky girl found her first family in Tampa, Florida, during an Adoption Event at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center. Upon arriving at her new home, her joy was palpable, only to be shattered again when she was left alone.
Abandoned For The Second Time

After five years in her first home, Honey found herself in a shelter due to a family member’s allergy. This resilient girl held onto hope, waiting for another human family to care for her. When that opportunity arose, she faced yet another heartbreak — this time it was deemed that she was “boring.”
“The adopter found that she didn’t eat much while in their care and showed little interest in treats. She had no interest in toys or playing. Honey is very quiet, calm, and spends most of her day sleeping,” noted the volunteers on the Rescue Me Tampa page.

After being surrendered to a shelter, things took a turn for the better when Julie Bassett from Husky Life Rescue, Polk County, Florida, intervened. She found Honey a temporary home, providing her the relaxation and care she desperately needed. At what many believed was the age of ten, Honey appeared extremely depressed; she had a gentle heart but wasn’t very active—now we know why.
Shocking Surprise

As it turned out, Honey was not boring — she was extremely sick! To everyone’s surprise, she wasn’t ten, but rather fifteen years old.
“Honey was taken to the veterinarian today. We have been informed that she is actually closer to 15 years old. Her liver and pancreas levels were extremely elevated. She has a UTI and a respiratory infection. It’s no wonder she was ‘boring.’ It’s hard to feel motivated when you’re feeling so unwell,” HLR shared on Facebook.
Julie felt disheartened by the diagnosis but was determined to care for Honey for as long as necessary. After being admitted to North Polk Animal Hospital, the treatment began. Remarkably, despite her fragile condition when she first arrived, Honey started to show improvement in just two days.

With proper medications and pancreatitis therapy, the vets successfully treated Honey, and she’s gradually regaining her former spark. Despite her age, Honey is a big lover, relishing belly rubs and cuddle sessions with the staff, and she certainly knows how to give back the affection she receives. While a full recovery is anticipated, she still requires some time before she’s ready for a forever home. For now, she’s just relishing the safety and comfort of her temporary care.
