Suzette Hall, a dedicated dog rescuer from California, has experienced numerous heart-wrenching stories throughout her years of service. Each mission weighs heavily on her heart, but the joy of witnessing the dogs’ transformations after receiving care inspires her to keep going. Recently, Hall was alerted about a dog that had been hiding under a broken car in an apartment complex, which turned out to be a more complicated situation than she anticipated.
His Original Hiding Place Was Heartbreaking
Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, received a tip from a neighbor about a dog that had been lurking in the area. His last refuge was beneath a broken car in a garage, and despite the challenging journey, Hall didn’t hesitate to act. She arrived on site only to find the dog missing and decided to remain in the area, hopeful to catch a glimpse of him.
During her search, Hall noticed unusual movement in the bushes beside a long driveway and realized it was the dog! It dawned on her that this was where he had originally taken refuge, crying and waiting for someone to rescue him. In a Facebook post, Hall recalled, “He was literally in there crying.”
To save him, she set a humane trap with tasty treats and distanced herself. Despite her efforts, the dog, terrified, wouldn’t approach the trap and clung to his hiding spot. Thinking quickly, Hall decided to try a different tactic. She equipped herself with bite gloves and crawled slowly toward the dog, reassuring him that all would be well.
With careful pats to the dog’s back, she gradually pulled him from the cramped space. She noted how tight it was, grateful for her gloves and slip lead. Though the pup struggled to break free, Hall understood this was her only opportunity to save him, and she would not let go.
Saved Just In Time
Within minutes, the frightened dog was secured in a crate and en route to a veterinary clinic. To Hall’s shock, the initial vet assessment revealed puncture wounds across the dog’s body and severe malnourishment. Hall recalled the vet’s words, “I’m so glad you got him here when you did; he has puncture wounds, his gums are white and he’s skin and bones,” highlighting the urgency of her intervention.
If not for Hall’s prompt action, the dog might have faced dire consequences. Now, he has a fighting chance and a brighter future ahead.
Once the pup completes his treatment, he will be available for adoption, and Hall eagerly anticipates witnessing his journey unfold!
