As a man drove past an elementary school in Austin, Texas, he was drawn to a distressing scene.
A woman picked up her dog, leaned over a fence, and left her in a playground filled with children. The man couldn’t believe his eyes. He quickly parked his car and approached the woman.
She asserted that she had tried to take the dog to a shelter but was turned away.
After her owner left, the puppy began to whimper and dashed back and forth, desperately trying to follow her.
Once the woman was no longer visible, the poor pup was left dejected. She sat by the fence, gazing into the distance, sadness etched on her face.
A Couple Comforts The Sad Furbaby
The compassionate man who witnessed this heart-wrenching moment spoke to the frightened dog, trying to soothe her. He called his wife, Maddy Cantu, who arrived soon after.
Upon seeing the abandoned pup, she was profoundly affected by the sadness in the dog’s eyes. It was hard for her to comprehend that someone would have left such a loving creature.
Even though the pup was terrified, the couple worked patiently to earn her trust.
Cantu gently held her in her arms, and together with her husband, they took the pup home with them. They decided to foster her until they could find her a loving forever home.
Once back at their house, they gave the dog a thorough bath.
The pup, later named Daisy, continued to tremble in fear. Cantu hugged her closely and lavished her with cuddles and affection.
As Cantu and her husband continued to shower Daisy with love, she gradually began to feel secure. She relished lying on her cozy bed and spending time with her foster parents.
Eventually, the pup grew attached to them and began showering them with kisses.
Daisy Feels Cherished And Loved
Though the couple initially intended to foster Daisy temporarily, they couldn’t help but be charmed by her sweet nature. They fell in love and realized they couldn’t bear to part with her. Daisy became an official member of their family.
“We came to understand that Daisy was brought into our lives for a purpose; she was meant to be part of our family,” Cantu shared in her TikTok video.
Daisy’s forever family took her to the vet, giving her a clean bill of health.
The vet estimated that Daisy was about three to four months old and assumed she was a mix of German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees.
Initially, Lilo, Daisy’s older canine sister, was uncertain about her, but gradually they began to bond.
“Lilo was indifferent at first, but as it became clear we were keeping Daisy, she started showing some jealousy. Since then, she has warmed to Daisy, and we make sure to give Lilo plenty of love and attention to help her adjust,” Cantu told Newsweek.
Daisy has embraced her new life with her family in Austin, Texas. Thanks to their love, she has overcome the pain of being abandoned. Her new parents have shown her that she is deserving of love.
Her eyes now radiate joy, and her tail wags joyfully. She has truly found her happiness.
