For dogs, the most important thing is their human family, as they spend their lives surrounded by love and companionship. When this is taken away, it can deeply affect them. Unfortunately, that is the situation of the dog in today’s story.
Left Behind
When Janine Guido, the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania, received a call about a lost dog roaming Harrisburg, she quickly set out to investigate. Upon locating the dog, she found him rummaging through a dumpster for scraps. When she approached, he fled to the porch of his former home, confused as to why his family wasn’t there to feed him as they used to.
The poor pup couldn’t comprehend why his family had left him behind. Even as Janine tried to coax him closer, he anxiously scratched at the door, desperately waiting to be let in.
Even when Janine offered food as a lure, the dog was uninterested, fixated on memories of the family he had lost. It took time for him to grasp that nobody was inside the house to open the door. However, when he heard Janine’s voice reassuring him that she was there to help, he finally relented.
“It sounds dumb but I swear he knew what I was saying to him. He literally came over and sat down and allowed me to leash him,” said Janine.
With tears in her eyes, Janine comforted the dog during the ride to the rescue, explaining what had occurred and assuring him that he was now in good hands.
At The Rescue
Now named Cupid, the dog needed time to adjust. Although he was happy to be around caring humans and dogs, he still struggled to move past his abandonment.
He has been nothing but the sweetest gentleman since arriving at the rescue. You can tell he’s still confused, but he greets everyone with a wagging tail.
Cupid is receiving excellent care at the Pennsylvania Speranza Rescue. Upon arrival, he was taken for a thorough veterinary check-up to ensure his health matched his cuteness. Once completed, he will be ready to find his forever home—one that will love him as he deserves.
I don’t think that a forever home will be hard to find because he truly is the sweetest guy.
