Unfortunately, there are numerous cases where owners abandon their dogs without justification, leaving them stranded and helpless. In contrast, there are kind-hearted individuals who find themselves in tough situations trying to save a dog, ultimately having to leave them with little hope.
This story revolves around an Arizona man who left his dog in a park along with a heartbreaking note for passersby.
A Smart Boy, Baloo
Baloo, a 1-year-old good boy, was abandoned by his owner just as he was beginning to discover the joys of life. Fortunately, a caring woman named Lillian Engelhard spotted him in the park and felt compelled to help.
Unsure if Baloo belonged to someone else, she chose to take action. As she recounted to The Dodo: “I was walking one of my dogs when we came across a community dog run with a dog in it, but no owners were visible. I thought maybe they had gone to their car for more doggie bags or might have been dealing with an emergency.”
After observing the situation for some time, Engelhard suspected Baloo had been left there for a while due to his apparent thirst and hunger, as well as his restless pacing. Concerned, she decided to wait in her car for a while, hoping someone would return for him. Unfortunately, no one came back.
Baloo Loves Learning New Things
Determined to help, Engelhard approached Baloo, who was excited to see her. His demeanor changed as he recognized a friendly face. In that moment, she discovered a note attached to his collar. It read, “This dog is not trained!!! *I had to leave him. Please save him (Venom).” It was clear that despite his training challenges, Baloo had once been a cherished pet who loved being around people.
Despite his energetic behavior, Engelhard took it upon herself to train him for better focus. She was proud of the progress he made in just a few days; he learned to sit, lie down, stay, and was even potty trained.
After spending some time in Engelhard’s care, she facilitated his adoption through Lost Our Home Pet Rescue. While his adoption status remains unknown, it’s reassuring to know he is well cared for and continuing to learn.
