Good Samaritan Stunned to Discover Zipped Duffel Bag with Two Eyes Peering Out

On a chilly afternoon, a Good Samaritan was strolling through the streets of Albany, New York, when something unusual caught their attention.

Close to a grimy trash can, a zipped duffel bag with two eyes peering out was spotted.

Upon crouching down for a closer inspection, the Good Samaritan realized that a small brown and black tiger cat was nestled inside.

They quickly reached out to animal control, who soon arrived to rescue the cat and transported it safely to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS), which is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York.

The cat, later named Newt, was welcomed by Kara Murry, the intake coordinator at MHHS. Upon meeting him, Kara was taken aback by how gentle and friendly this cat was.

“I remember exclaiming, ‘How could anyone throw you in the trash? You’re so charming and snuggly!’ She was purring and leaning in for pets, as if to express, ‘Thank you for rescuing me,’” Kara shared with The Dodo.

New Chance

The initial steps for Newt involved receiving a comprehensive medical examination, along with food and water.

Within just the first few hours, this delightful cat managed to win over everyone who came near.

“She approached me for affection and snuggles the very first time I met her, which was two days after her arrival. [She] was incredibly sweet, seeking cuddles and thoroughly enjoyed playing with pipe cleaners,” Heather Ellis, a veterinary assistant at Mohawk Hudson, recounted to The Dodo.

Thanks to her irresistible charm, Newt’s stay at the humane society was short-lived. He found a warm and loving forever home with a man who longed for a sweet companion.

It truly was a match made in heaven.

Thanks to her new caring dad who finally recognized her value, Newt would never again have to face the fear of abandonment.

“As the saying goes, one person’s trash can be another’s treasure. This lovely girl has transformed into an invaluable treasure for her new dad,” stated Marguerite Pearson, director of marketing and communications at Mohawk Hudson, in her conversation with The Dodo.

Newt, may you enjoy a joyful and fulfilling life overflowing with affection, happiness, and wonderful cuddles. You truly deserve it!
