Sometimes, the most unexpected things come from the most ordinary places. For Brian Waldrop, the Stream Team Coordinator at Missouri Department of Conservation, and his colleagues, the day began like any other. Scouting locations for clean-up with the Stream Teams, Beyond Housing, and citizens from a Tiered Community Teams, they stumbled upon a pile of trash with a large black bag on top, which set the stage for an unexpected discovery.
What Was In A Bag?

The black bag seemed to be moving, prompting Bryan to investigate. As he drew closer and opened the bag, he quickly froze in shock. Tucked between bottles and candy wrappers was a little puppy!

Brian and his co-workers were astonished. Realizing that the puppy was a victim of cruel abandonment shattered their hearts. “It’s a happy ending story or at least a happy beginning story. He was found in a black trash bag in a pile of trash,” Brian told FOX 2 St. Louis. He couldn’t comprehend how anyone could do such a terrible thing to an animal, leading him to intervene.
The Most Heartwarming Love Story

Instead of leaving the puppy’s future uncertain, Brian made a lifesaving call. Without a second thought, he decided to give the pup a forever home and a family. The Department announced the good news in a Facebook post, and it was met with overwhelming joy from people across the country.
Comments poured in, with one saying, “Thank you for saving this little guy! So thankful your crew was in the right place at the right time,” and another adding, “Handsome little guy! Glad he’s finally home.” When Brian first brought Dude home, he appeared to be yellow; however, after a long bath, he transformed into a brand-new, white pup!

Brian said, “He was quite yellow. When I got him home and washed him, he magically turned white.” Though he didn’t have an immediate name, Brian eventually settled on naming his little rescue buddy – Dude! In his words, “His first name could’ve been Hefty… and then it turned into Welston. Right now, it’s just good ole’ Dude. He’s just a cute little puppy.”
After the horrible events that followed the pup’s abandonment, Brian is just relieved that Dude finally has a home where he can relax. Now, Dude’s only job is to think of creative, new adventures as he will never have to fear abandonment again.
