One morning, the officers of DeKalb County Animal Services in Georgia encountered a heartbreaking sight outside their shelter: a Pitbull puppy abandoned in a cardboard box filled with plums. The poor puppy was emaciated and terrified, refusing to leave his box even when the staff tried to bring him inside. They named him Plum.
Abandoned And Scared
Plum was deeply scared and sad due to being heartlessly abandoned by his family. “We just wanted to hug him, make him feel better and let him know he was safe. We set up a nice crate with a fluffy bed and some treats, leaving the door open in hopes he would go in on his own,” shared Karen from LifeLine Animal Project.
It took weeks for Plum to emerge from his box, but eventually, he began to trust a few shelter employees and started exploring. When he did, the staff could see what a wonderful dog he truly was.
“When Plum arrived, he couldn’t leave his box. Now, he has made incredible progress, and we love watching his personality blossom,” LifeLine Animal Project shared on Facebook.
Bonding quickly with the shelter staff, Plum showed his sweet and cuddly nature. As time went on, his silly side emerged, delighting everyone.
After weeks of support to help Plum overcome his fears, it was clear he was going to be alright.
“We wanted him to have his happily ever after, so we started posting about him, and just a month later, his adopter came and swept him off his feet,” Karen mentioned.
Plum Going Home
This sweet boy was adopted by Melonie from Atlanta, Georgia. For her, it was love at first sight, and she immediately felt the need to adopt Plum. “He looked like he had an old soul,” Melonie shared with The Dodo. At first, Plum was still a scrawny puppy, but with love and care, he gained almost 20 pounds and is now thriving.
He even made furry friends at home and seems to fit in perfectly with them.
According to Melonie, Plum is the sweetest dog ever, albeit quite silly too. One of his favorite pastimes is lying upside down on the grass and rolling around.
“He falls asleep easily and snores loudly, finding comfort in the most awkward positions,” Melonie added.
