Rescuers Stunned to Discover Starving Dog Left Behind in California Desert

Date:

Dogs are often regarded as humanity’s best friends, yet some tragically fall victim to their owners’ cruelty. Instead of enjoying the comforts of a loving home, they are left to fend for themselves on the streets in search of shelter and food when their owners abandon them.

Anderson, a sweet Cane Corso, faced a similar fate when he was heartlessly left behind in Box Canyon, Mecca, California. After days of wandering the wilderness alone and near death, he was finally discovered by a couple.

Inhumane Act

While camping in the Canyon, Jason and Katie stumbled upon a Cane Corso curled up by their campsite. Shocked to find a dog alone without an owner, Jason cautiously approached and offered him water, which the emaciated pup eagerly accepted. He was in such poor condition that he struggled to lift his head and barely managed to stand. Realizing he had likely been abandoned, they reached out to Kirk Geiger, a founder of The Animal Rescue Center of California.

“When we first found him, he couldn’t lift his head, had trouble standing, and his eyes were bloodshot due to severe dehydration,” Katie shared with Kirk. He promptly drove to the location, and although Anderson was initially apprehensive, he gradually warmed up to his rescuers.

Kirk was astonished to see that within just a day, Anderson let his guard down and began to socialize, a remarkable feat considering his earlier circumstances.

Another bond blossomed as Kirk offered Anderson some food, and the big pup quickly warmed up to him. After their introductions, they departed for the facility for further care.

Off To A New Start

The vet examination revealed that Anderson was about a year and a half old and surprisingly in good health, showing his friendly nature by making friends easily. He passed his evaluation test with flying colors, displaying no signs of aggression and a strong desire to play, indicative of prior training.

“He’s just been a joy to have and we have completely fallen in love with this breed. He is such an amazing dog. He’s just the sweetest, goofiest lovebug, and so devoted and incredibly bright, totally low-key,” his rescuers shared.

Anderson’s story quickly gained traction on social media, attracting many applications for adoption. However, one individual particularly captured the attention of the rescue team: Jay, a Cane Corso and Shih Tzu owner, who was immediately drawn to Anderson’s story. Upon meeting, the bond between them was palpable—Jay was undoubtedly Anderson’s new dad!

“We knew right away that they were a perfect match. Anderson responded to Jay instantly, and with Jay being a natural leader, Anderson listened to him without hesitation,” noted The Animal Rescue Center of California.

As they drove off together to Jay’s loving home in Oregon, Anderson finally discovered what true love and affection feel like. Excitement awaited him, as he would be surrounded by his new family and two furry companions. Most importantly, he would never again have to fear abandonment.
