Woman Saves Fur Ball by the Lake, Uncovering a Hidden Secret Later

Date:

While strolling by the lake in El Dorado, California, it’s not uncommon to encounter wildlife. One woman, Mathilda, was well aware of this, yet she was taken aback when she stumbled upon a ball of fur rolling in the dirt near the water.

Dumped And Lonely

Upon closer inspection, Mathilda recognized that the creature rolling in the dirt was a rabbit. Although inexperienced with rabbits, she felt compelled to help. As the rabbit approached her, she noted, “She came up and asked me to pet her,” as shared in a Facebook video posted by The Dodo.

Realizing the bunny was likely a domestic pet abandoned in the wild, Mathilda felt an immediate connection. She decided then and there to bring the rabbit home to Los Angeles. After a visit to the veterinarian confirmed no microchip, she named the rabbit Honeybun, or Bun Bun.

Believing nothing could surpass her joy, Mathilda had yet to discover Bun Bun’s hidden secret.

After settling into her new home, Bun Bun started to exhibit unusual behavior. Mathilda observed, “She started ripping out fabric, nesting a lot, gaining a lot of weight,” and initially thought she might be overfeeding her. However, she soon discovered the heartwarming truth!

“The next thing I knew, I just saw three little feet popping up from underneath her belly,” she exclaimed.

All this time, Bun Bun had been pregnant without Mathilda realizing it. Despite the unexpected news and her lack of preparation, Mathilda felt an overwhelming sense of pride: “I felt so proud,” she shared. “I was really happy just looking at them.”

As the baby bunnies grew, so did Mathilda’s affection for them. Although it was a challenge caring for four pets, she couldn’t imagine her life without them, which ignited within her the desire to achieve even more.

“Having these bunnies in my life has made me want to foster more rescue bunnies in the future,” Mathilda expressed. “And even start a rescue.” Here’s hoping for her success!
