Rescuers Free Dog After 9 Days Trapped with Its Head Stuck in a Jug

Date:

Dogs are animals that form deep bonds with humans. Their attachment isn’t just rooted in affection and attention but also revolves around their fundamental needs, much like those of infants.

When a dog is abruptly separated from its owner, it can find itself in challenging situations, as they are not accustomed to being alone or self-reliant.

These situations can be quite peculiar, like a dog consuming something that alters its behavior, growing hair that makes it resemble a sheep, or even getting its head trapped in a container.

Rescue From The Jug: Worth A Life

On a summer afternoon, Stacy DeSantis from the Thelma and Louise Dog Rescue received an urgent call about a dog wandering with a jug stuck on its head.

This American Staffordshire Terrier was spotted in Jennings, Florida. Without hesitation, Stacy and her colleague, Maria, sprang into action.

They set up several traps in the vicinity where the dog had been seen, with the support of local residents. Despite their efforts, it took three arduous days to finally track him down.

One morning, they received a call from a man indicating that he had found the dog inside his home. Maria and Stacy, accompanied by Stacy’s husband, Nick DeSantis, rushed to the scene and swiftly encircled the area.

Using a leash, they successfully extracted the dog, while Nick adeptly cut the jug off with specialized scissors.

Remarkably, this unfortunate dog had his head trapped in that plastic jug for nearly 9 days, during which he was starving. Without their timely assistance, he would not have survived long. Despite the ordeal, this brave pup displayed an admirable level of composure, ready to accept help.

Clearly frightened, Maria and Stacy embraced him, tears of joy streaming down their faces as they welcomed him.

“You’ve got a new life now,” Maria said, gently stroking his head.

A Bit Frisky, But Radiates Love And Joy

The easiest part of helping Jughead, as they named him, was his willingness to accept assistance. Visiting the vet was a breeze.

Sadly, he was heartworm-positive, requiring vaccinations and a complete heartworm treatment.

Maria was the first to look after Jughead. While she was home, everything was fine. However, upon her departure for work, Jug would often create chaos out of anxiety.

Initially frustrated by his behavior, Maria soon realized that Jug was suffering from separation anxiety.

It became apparent that Jug had an owner who had moved into a nursing home, leaving him alone.

Recognizing this situation, they concluded that placing Jug in Stacy’s care, surrounded by other rescued dogs, would be beneficial. This turned out to be an excellent decision, as Jughead soon blended in and enjoyed the company of new canine friends to help manage his abundant energy.

Besides companionship, he adored food and showed an amusing obsession with it.

His antics, such as trying to retrieve food from a box, paint a clear picture of how his head became trapped in a jug in the first place.

Ultimately, despite his mischievous tendencies, this dog exuded pure joy on four legs. However, he still needed a permanent home where he could share that joy and exuberance.

He Was Destined To Stay

After two months, it became evident that it was time for Jug to find his permanent home. Stacy began sharing his adoption details on social media, yet something within her resisted letting go.

She found it difficult to part with the dog who had brought tears of happiness to her eyes during their rescue in Jennings two months prior.

Following a discussion with her husband, Nick, she arrived at a decision that would ensure lasting happiness for their family. Jug, affectionately dubbed Juggie Wuggie, officially became a beloved member of their family.

Though he might not have learned from his previous escapades, often sticking his head into everything—especially to snag food—now he had a companion to help him navigate through those moments, keeping a smile on his face.

After all the challenges he faced, this represented the happiest conclusion for him and for his new family as well.
