Given the widespread lack of awareness about ecological issues, it’s not surprising to find plastic bags and containers abandoned on the roadside.
This issue caught the attention of a woman named Tarriantiara Hayes when, one day, while driving, she spotted a plastic bin placed next to the road. However, what truly piqued her interest was seeing a small animal darting toward that same bin.
It became clear to her that someone had callously discarded these vulnerable creatures, although she was unsure what animals they were.
Driven by curiosity and concern, she quickly decided to investigate this situation.
Sweetest Surprise
Upon getting closer to the plastic bin and looking inside, Hayes was taken aback, though her heart warmed at the sight of what she discovered.
Inside were three tiny guinea pigs. Unfortunately, they were not in great shape, being wet and infested with bugs due to the heavy rainfall in the area over the past few days.
Frightened by everything around them, the guinea pigs managed to escape the confines of the plastic bin. However, this compassionate woman was resolute in her mission to save them.
Fortunately, she had some cabbage in her car, which helped her coax them back. Then, she cleverly covered the plastic bin with a blanket to prevent them from fleeing while she transported them to her vehicle.
Ultimately, her rescue effort was a success, and the little creatures were safely on their way to a new life.
New Little Ones
After providing them with care and support for their recovery, Hayes grew so fond of the three guinea pigs that she couldn’t bear to part with them. She made a decision to welcome them into her home for the time being.
Among them, one was a male, while the other two were female. She named the male Trevor and the two females Belly and Piggy. Together, they formed a delightful little family.

However, she soon discovered that her adorable family was about to grow because Belly and Piggy were both expecting.
Determined to ensure the pregnant guinea pigs were well taken care of, Hayes conducted thorough research. Fortunately, she received invaluable assistance from a friend who happened to be a guinea pig expert.
Following her friend’s recommendations, she separated the male pig from the females and focused on providing the moms-to-be with a calcium-rich diet.
Before long, Piggy experienced pure joy by giving birth to three little ones – one male and two females. Although the thought of having more guinea pigs was unexpected for Hayes, she couldn’t contain her happiness at witnessing such heartwarming moments.
Hayes decided to keep the male baby, ensuring Trevor would have companionship, a choice supported by her children who had also grown fond of the adorable creatures.
Regarding the two female babies, she aimed to find them loving permanent homes.
Instead Of Joy, Bitter Taste
Life in the Hayes household was idyllic as they awaited the arrival of Belly’s babies, which promised even more happiness.
Tragically, however, circumstances changed unexpectedly, bringing them bitter disappointment. Just a few days after Piggy’s birthing, Hayes shared a TikTok video that saddened her followers.
“I am deeply saddened to announce that Belly didn’t survive her delivery. All her babies were stillborn, and she passed away shortly after,” Hayes expressed in the video.
This was a devastating moment for Hayes and her family, who became deeply attached to all the charming creatures, including Belly.
Nonetheless, they found solace in knowing that Belly had passed on while surrounded by love from those who did everything to ensure her and her babies’ happiness.
The memory of this sweet guinea pig will forever remain in their hearts.
